Home removal really isn’t the most exciting job in the world. But it isn’t the most boring either. Most of the time it’s just routine moving of stuff from one point to another. Sometimes they encounter something unique about the job that would make it memorable for them. That’s exactly what happened to two removalists from Melbourne last November 2nd. They go an experience that would make them remember that particular job for the rest of their lives.
Police might be suspicious of removalists. They get to move around a lot in that huge van of theirs and they get to load it with all kinds of stuff. For some people that’s a perfect setting for committing some crime. Apparently that is exactly what was in the mind of some police officers when they stopped a removal van carrying two personnel from the moving company and the woman who hired them to do the job.
All three were forced on the ground in the middle of Punt Road, in plain sight of all the people who were stuck in the traffic and were handcuffed. The three tried to explain that they were just in the middle of a home removal, but that didn’t work. The police were convinced that they have just nabbed three high profile suspects and that they were on their way to do some crime.
Almost half an hour passed before things could be cleared. The boss of the removalists was naturally upset about the incident and said that it could all have been avoided, if only the police officers had the sense to call them first before they went of charging and arresting the three individuals.
The removalists didn’t cherish the idea of being arrested like they were some high profile criminal and hopes that it would be the last of such an experience for them. They know that it could have been much worse. The police officers did admit later on that they made a mistake and that they had no reason to hold and arrest the two removalist and their client.
Risks They Are Facing
That just shows the kinds of risk that those engaged in home removal are facing. While police officers don’t randomly arrest removalists on their way to work, it just shows that the task is more than just loading furniture from an location and dumping it on the new place. There are some other things to worry about as well.

The times are changing and the ethics and values that have been upheld in the past are fast becoming eroded in a modern world. People are becoming more and more cynical and none could prove that more than the view that they have of current politics. People see politics in an increasingly jaded way.
The Peter Slipper Case
Last October, Peter Slipper the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives was forced to resign as a direct result of an accusation by his adviser for media that he made a sexual proposition. The adviser, James Ashby filed a lawsuit and that was the start of the controversy which resulted in the weakened hold of the current government to power. Slipper denied that the accusations had any truth behind it, but he was forced to resign nonetheless
The Federal Court has thrown out the case however and has said that Ashby’s attack was motivated by political interests. The court has ordered, Ashby to pay for the legal costs that Slipper has incurred because of the case.
Increasingly Cynical
While the dismissal of the case vindicated Slipper, the case did cause to increase the cynical view of many Australians on politics and their political leaders. They are no longer surprised when this or that politician becomes involved in some scandal or is accused of wrong doing or corruption. That’s a danger form of point of view to have. People are expecting politicians to behave in the worst possible way.
One Hit Faulkner
That kind of view is simply unacceptable to John Faulkner who is a Labour elder. He is proposing a “one strike you’re out” policy for all Labour politicians. That means once a party is proven guilty that he should be expelled and banned from membership to the party.
For Faulkner this kind of policy is needed in order to prevent the dropping public opinion when it comes to politics and the way that they conduct themselves. For Faulkner once is enough. There should be no second chances when it comes to a politician who has been proven guilty of corruption.
His view is that a few corrupt politicians are dragging down the reputation of everyone. So the best step is to identify those rotten few and then excluded. Faulkner might be an old-fashioned politician but if has his way and his policy gets to be used in Australian politics as a whole then it would be a totally different game.

In this day and age when computers rule the day and everything that we do has been influenced by it, you would think that the most in-demand jobs would be something connected with information technology. Think again. A recent study has shown that the most in demand job in Australia today is carpentry.
That’s right, it’s good old skilled carpentry that is most in demand in the country today and that is not likely to change in the near future. In fact the demand for skilled carpenters is just bound to increase even more.
The Study
The study was conducted across 28 industries including more than 400 different job types. Carpentry came in strong as the most in demand job in the country today and was followed by kitchen helpers. Air-conditioning mechanics followed closely as well as financial planners.
Carpentry showed an increase in demand that rose by more 50% which indicates the rate of new homes that are being built across the country today. This is an interesting piece of information because it shows that people are still getting new houses despite the global financial crisis. It also illustrates the fact that old skills such as carpentry will always be in demand no matter how modern we all become. There would always be someone needing their house to be built or repaired.
The Supply Problem
The problem is that the supply of skilled workers might be experiencing a drying up. This is because of the shift in the career orientation of young people of today. Because of the emphasis on white collar jobs many young people today tend to look down on jobs that require skill and craftsmanship and so they do not choose a path that would lead to such a career. The problem is that white collar jobs sometimes don’t pay as much as skilled work, like carpentry and they might not be needed as much.
This is also a problem in the United States where there are so many unemployed people, while the fact is that there are so many jobs that are waiting to be filled in. The problem is that there is not much qualified workers to do those jobs. Companies are actually becoming desperate to get the positions filled. So the problem is not that there are no available jobs, the real problem is that are not much people qualified for those jobs.
The same thing might happen in Australia. The time comes when we might not have enough carpenters to go around.

In the world of the future, houses would have the ability to generate their own electricity. They would no longer be reliant on being connected to the regular power lines, because they would be generating their own supply of energy. That has become a more distinct possibility now with the invention of the solar painters.
This new form of paint is the invention of Professor Paul Dastoor in the University of Newcastle in Australia. It is a form of solar cell technology that has no environmental impact. It is based on semiconducting nanoparticles that can be dispersed in water. This would allow it to be printed and applied on surfaces, using water based paints. Right now the material can be used on large sheets of plastic that could be used in the same way that solar panels are being used today. The possibilities for it are numerous.
As the technology becomes more developed, it would then be possible to apply the paint containing the material directly on the surface of a structure such as a house for example and then the energy that it produces could then be tapped for supplying the power needs of the household.
Still Needs Some Work
The system is still not perfect. Right now, they could only apply it on large plastic sheets and not on the surfaces of houses directly. The developers still have not perfected the making of the paint that would also be a practical surface covering.
Another problem is the efficiency of the cells in generating electricity once they are in place. This has always been the weak point of most of the solar technologies that are now being used. Of the great amount of solar energy that they are getting they can only convert a little of it into electrical energy. A great amount of it is just wasted or is turned into heat energy.
If this technology is going to be used on a commercial level then it is efficiency in converting energy would have to be improved significantly so that a house can be completely reliant on it for its energy needs.
Endless Possibilities
Despite the fact that there are still some problems with it, there is a tremendous amount of possibility with this kind of technology. Just imagine the time when all homes would be completely independent when it comes to their power needs and there is no longer any need for power lines.

Internet forums have their start from the early days of the internet. Back then it was more like a mailing list which allows the members to post messages and comments on particular topics. Over the years it has been refined however and now forums can have a treelike structure where topics are all branching out. In order to make sure that the forum posts stay on topic and that there is no unclean or inappropriate language used, there are certain users of the forums who are known as “moderators”. These moderators have access to all the posts of the members and can edit and delete anything that they deem as unseemly.
The popularity of forums has been growing each year. Its main draw is that it allows people who are interested in the same thing to connect and have a discussion.
Topics- Almost anything can be a topic for forums such as on Flying Solo. As long as people will be interested in posting about a topic then a thread can be started on it. The most common threads to be created are about hobbies and stuff that people do on their free time.
There are more practical topics as well being created on forums. One example of that is how people are coming up with forums for cleaning. This is a practical topic that everyone should be interested in. There are many topics within house cleaning that can be made into “threads”. For example, a thread can be started on how to properly disinfect a home. There are a lot of people who might be interested on how they can do that without causing harm to their children. There are some people out there who know of special products and formulas that they can share on the forum.
Another interesting topic that people might be interested in discussing over a forum is how to find the right house cleaner. A thread could be started on the best house cleaners for a certain area for example and a lot of people from that location would be very interested in that. They would visit the site in order to get as much information as they can. There could even be reviews there on the services of some cleaners.
